Dar Frate Jacoba is a centre of Youth Alive Foundation in Marsaskala, Malta, that provides shelter and support to young people experiencing social difficulties. It is run by a Franciscan monk and a community of lay people who practice permaculture and sustainable agriculture. The name Dar Frate Jacoba comes from a noble lady who helped St Francis until his death.
The centre was founded in 2007 and is open to the public for fund-raising activities and visits.
The educational institute in Dar Frate Jacoba aims to provide vocational training and education to the residents. It offers a variety of courses and programs for individuals to acquire working skills in different fields such as mechanics, carpentry, electrical work, culinary arts, and more. The institute aims to equip the residents with practical skills that will help them secure employment and become self-sufficient. In addition to the educational institute, Dar Frate Jacoba also has a home in Sicily, specifically in Vallelunga Pratameno. This home serves as a place where the residents can spend their holidays and relax. However, it is also used as an opportunity to improve their skills in agriculture and farming. The residents have the opportunity to engage in farming activities, learn about sustainable agricultural practices, and gain hands-on experience in cultivating crops, tending to livestock, and managing agricultural projects. By providing a holistic approach to education and skill acquisition, Dar Frate Jacoba aims to empower its residents to lead independent and fulfilling lives. The combination of vocational training and practical experience in agriculture not only enhances their job prospects but also instills a sense of responsibility towards the environment and sustainable practices.
